Small Group Immersion Program |
The Small Group Immersion Program is the most popular program because of it's dynamics and economics. The main objective of the Small Group Immersion Program is to develop both verbal communication and critical listening skills.
A variety of interactive and hands-on methods are used to cultivate motivation, self-confidence and enjoyment. Success is measured by the student’s ability to complete the communication loop in Spanish.
Class instruction is limited to a maximum of five students. The small group size assures individual participation and allows for personal attention from the instructor.
There are twelve different levels of coursework accommodating everyone from an absolute beginner to a Spanish teacher needing a refresher course. Classes at the various proficiency levels run concurrently.
Proficiency levels are determined both by oral interview and by written exercises. Students tend to be placed in groups based more on their ability to communicate than by the results of the written exercises.
Classes meet Monday through Friday throughout the year from 8:30AM until 2:30 PM.
The first four hours of each day is the core curriculum period. This period consists mainly of exercises and drills focusing on aural comprehension and oral expression. In the afternoon, students change instructors for a two-hour activity period. Dictionaries, verb books and note books are put to the side. Students engage in role playing, songs, board games, presentations and numerous other activities that promote using Spanish to communicate. Special topics and activities are organized around the needs, interests and proficiency levels of the group.
Each Thursday, in lieu of the afternoon activity, an off-campus excursion to a point of interest in Ensenada is coordinated. The excursion is optional. There are typically nominal admission fees to enter some museums and for some tours. These fees are are NOT PART OF THE TUITION. Students should budget accordingly.

“The Baja California Language College was the perfect answer to my recent challenge. I was about to head down to Baja in March of this year and participate with Amigos de los Californios in a two-week dental clinic for the remote mountain villages of Santa Martha and San Francisco. I was to be the receptionist for the clinic and my Spanish skills needed a swift boost.
I contacted Keith Rolle of the Baja California Language College in Ensenada. This was the third time I was returning to the school and since my time was limited, they accommodated my request for only three days of attendance. There were three students in my morning class and two of us in the afternoon class. This allowed for plenty of individual attention and opportunity for practice. A review of verb tenses and expressions helped my mind set and the speaking helped my tongue remember what to do inside my mouth to make the Spanish flow.
Teachers were knowledgeable about Latin American cultures as well as the Spanish language. Classroom space was beautiful, comfortable and close to wonderful restaurants and taco stands for lunch. Many of the classroom exercises and assignments were fun and excursions to La Bufadora and the vineyards in Guadalupe Valley provided enjoyable opportunities to practice our Spanish.
Living with a family is the best. I have experienced three different homes and all were excellent. Besides providing two or three delicious meals a day and comfortable, private bedroom accommodations, the “Mamas” are well trained to speak slowly and distinctly and listen intently. Your Spanish can’t help but improve in a very non-threatening atmosphere.
If you’d like to increase your knowledge of Spanish or learn to speak more fluently so you can better enjoy your travels in Mexico, the Baja California Language College is an excellent way to do it. View their website at www.bajacal.com or call our Discover Baja office at 800-727-2252 and ask for Carol. I’ll be glad to extol the benefits of the Language College. Feliz viaje!”
