Success using US based cell phones in Ensenada is a hit or miss proposition. Some students who have subscribed to special international services have had no luck sending or receiving calls. Others, without enrolling in any special plans, have been able to use their phones as they do at home. Some can only initiate calls while others can only receive calls. There are no hard and fast rules regarding cell service in Ensenada with US based phones. Some work-other don’t.

The College recommends purchasing pre-paid Mexican phone cards. They can be purchased at most pharmacies, grocery and liquor stores. They come in denominations of 50, 100 and 200 pesos. (Roughly $5, $10, and $20 USD) They are easier to use than US based international calling cards. Expect to pay approximately $1.10 USD per minute to call the US. Calls to Europe and Asia are slightly cheaper.

E-Mail

Internet cafés are abundant in Ensenada. There is a location close to each homestay and hotel. This makes it very easy for students to keep current with family, friends, and work through their personal email accounts. Rates are just around $1.00 USD per hour. Most all Internet cafés in Ensenada offer high speed connections.

The College has one dedicated email account for students to share. Anyone enrolled in classes may reserve a 10 minute block of time to send messages. Students may also receive messages at the College. There is no charge for access to this account.

Mail

Although Ensenada is just over 80 miles from downtown San Diego, it is not uncommon that a letter or postcard can take well over two weeks to reach it's intended US, Canadian or European destination. For that reason, the College has a weekly courier that brings mail to the US to be sent through the US Postal Service. There is no charge for the courier service.
